I’ve been designing this website for a while. On the to-do list was writing a blog post - my first ever. But I kept putting it off.

Why?

Well, since you’re here, you can probably guess.

It’s not that I didn’t know what to say, but because my insecurity kept whispering: Who are you to do this?

Now, I’ve been writing professionally for years and teaching others to do the same at the same time. So this should be a simple extension of that…

Yet…

It feels awkward to put yourself out there. And if you are here, you know that feeling as well.

So why am I here, writing this now? It’s fairly simple. I’ve been teaching at a regular post for a while, and while I am fortunate to be working in two writers’ rooms at the moment (I do absolutely recognise how fortunate that is) - I found myself missing the energy that comes with teaching.

That feeling of making an impact.

So this is my why I created this website.

The why of - why I kept putting this portion off - is the second reason I created this website.

When I started writing, I constantly felt this doubt: is this good enough, am I good enough, what if everyone hates the things I am creating (and in turn me)?

And then as I started to work professionally and teach my craft, I found out that it just wasn’t me.

It was everyone.

Professionals and beginners alike.

And I find it helps to know that other people, and more accomplished people, feel this way too. I routinely search out blogs and podcasts with people far more accomplished than me to hear them speak about it.

Because if they feel like this, then it’s okay that I feel like this.

That helps me push through.

Along with a bunch of other tools and methods I’ve developed over the years.

And that’s what I want to do with this site, and then see where it takes me.

The main purpose of this blog will be monthly collections of answers like this, maybe similar posts like this, and maybe some basic screenwriting craft posts.

So…

If you’ve ever asked yourself “Who am I to write this?” you’re in the right place.
