DEVELOPMENT NOTES FOR WRITERS
Stop guessing what your screenplay needs.
You've finished a draft, maybe several. You've rewritten scenes, changed characters, moved things around, and something still isn't working. Maybe you know what the problem is, maybe you don't. At some point you start to wonder whether you're making the screenplay better or just making it different.
I've written four produced feature films, been commissioned to write television, and spent over 15 years teaching screenwriting and helping writers develop their work. Now I offer that directly to individual writers.
FIND THE PROBLEM. WORK OUT THE SOLUTION.
I read your screenplay as a whole and write a development report on story, structure, characters, dramatic logic, pacing, dialogue and clarity: what's working, what isn't, why, and what you might do about it. I focus on the issues that matter most, so you know where to put your effort in the next draft.
I won't rewrite it for you. You'll still have to do the writing, but you shouldn't have to guess your way through it.

Follow-up calls are 60 minutes for features and one-hour TV scripts, and 30 minutes for shorts and half-hour TV scripts. They're an opportunity to discuss the notes, explore possible solutions and talk through your next steps.

I've taught screenwriting since 2009 and spent more than a decade running screenwriting education at the Icelandic Film School, first as Head of Screenwriting & Directing and later as Head of Studies.
Today I teach workshops and masterclasses for film schools, universities, festivals and professional organisations internationally.
My sessions are practical. The goal isn't simply to talk about screenwriting, but to give writers tools they can actually use when they sit down to work.
ACTION BLOCKS
My main screenwriting workshop is built around Action Blocks, a story-structure method I developed around a simple principle:
At every stage of a story, what question is keeping the audience watching?
Instead of forcing a screenplay into a predetermined structural template, writers break the story into sequences of dramatic action and examine the audience question driving each one.
I've taught the method internationally at film schools, universities and festivals, and published academic work on the approach.
Workshops can range from introductory masterclasses to intensive multi-day development sessions.

I’m based in the European Union and happy to collaborate on projects, lectures, and workshops anywhere in Europe or beyond. Within the EU, I can work freely, and for the UK or other non-EU countries, I can easily come in for short-term workshops or guest teaching as an external contractor.

ABOUT ME
Professional screenwriter and educator based in Iceland
I've been working professionally in screenwriting since 2007. My produced feature films include Polite People, City State, Brave Men's Blood and The Ghost in the House. My work has screened internationally, one of my films had its remake rights acquired by James Mangold's company, and I've worked on film and television projects for production companies in Iceland and internationally.
Alongside writing, I served as Head of Screenwriting & Directing at the Icelandic Film School from 2011–2016 and Head of Studies from 2016–2025.
I now write professionally for film and television while teaching workshops and masterclasses internationally.
